ABOUT LEIGH MINERS
Leigh Miners, founded in 2020 by a group of friends with a shared passion for American football, began as a grassroots initiative. The team quickly progressed through the associate process and earned their place in the British American Football Association (BAFA) leagues. However Leigh Miners has been much more than a sports team; it was created with a mission to promote positive attitude toward mental health, offering a sense of community and belonging through the camaraderie of sport.
The team has been an active force within the local community, organising charity fundraisers and food collections for local food banks. In a move that sets them apart, Leigh Miners is one of the few teams to provide all necessary equipment to newcomers, making it easier for anyone to join regardless of financial situation.
As a registered Community Interest Company (CIC), Leigh Miners operates at zero profit, dedicating all resources to improving equipment and facilities for the betterment of its players and the community it has grown. They have consistently adjusted player subscription fees to the most affordable level possible against outgoings ensuring that the sport remains accessible, especially during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. This commitment to inclusivity and support reflects their core values of friendship, community, and well-being.
